Zaragoza is filled with interesting cultural and historic sites. The Sights In Moncayo

Moncayo is an area in Zaragoza that is filled with picturesque towns and villages. Borja is a village where you will find quite a few historic monuments and structures. Here you will also find the remnants of the Mudejar monastery, an ancient fortress that was built in the 15th century. Another attraction in the village of Borja is the Casa de las Conchas or the “shell house”.

A few kilometres from the village of Borja is another monastery called the Veruela Monastery which was built in 1146. At the base of the Moncayo mountain is another monastery called the Monasterio de la Virgen del Moncayo. Another village in Moncayo is Tarazona where you will find an 18th century bullring called the Plaza de Toros. Other structures and sites that are worth a visit in the town of Tarazona is its 13th century cathedral, the Iglesia de la Magdalena, the town hall and the Archiepiscopal Palais.

Romanesque Historical Structures

Romanesque structures that have been around since the ancient times are abundant in Zaragoza. One of the popular structures in the region is the 13th century Romanesque church in Ejea de los Caballeros. In Uncastillo, you will come upon the magnificent fortress that overlooks the town as it perches atop a rock. Zaragoza is also the region where you can find the most well-preserved churches from the Romanesque era which is called the Santa Maria la Mayor. Another church is the San Juan which is located inside a huge rock formation.

Tourists can also visit the ruins of Banales, a Romanesque settlement, where you can view the well-preserved thermal spas and aqueducts. About 24 kilometres from the Uncastillo is the Sos del Rey Catolico, another well-preserved town from the medieval era. The town looks exactly the same way it did more than 700 years ago with its medieval town walls and fortress.

The town itself is a beauty with its ancient town hall, medieval walls and baroque church. Just a few kilometres from the town of Cariñena is the church of Santuario de Nuestra Senora de las Lagunas which is considered to be one of the most magnificent baroque churches in the area. Nearby is the town of Fuentetodos which is the birthplace of Goya, the famous artist.
